Eclipse

There haven't been many posts in awhile. I understand why. We have been working so hard. Rehearsing, performing... I feel like we've barely left the theater in the last week or so. I walked out, outside, away from the theater, today after the show. I had just finished a plastic cup of 'prop' champagne... Most people were walking by without looking, as usual, in the rush and hubbub of Union Square. I certainly didn't know anything particular was happening around me. Then I noticed... groups of people, or a person alone here, by a doorway, or there with his dog - and they were looking up. All of these random people just looking up as the city marched past them. Some had telescopes or camcorders, or binoculars... Then I looked up too, and I saw it! The moon! This halo of a moon, swathed in a sheen of black. Eclipsing... It glowed from something hidden, deep inside. I think our play is like that, can be like that...

Apparently now,
outside,
the moon is glowing red.

Snow and steam rooms

It is snowing today. I'm sitting in a taxi on my way to the rehearsal and holding on tight to my safety belt... Yesterday was our day off -- a selfcare day for me. In the evening, as I was sitting in the steam room of the gym, ideas about Max kept flooding my mind. Actually, steam rooms (and dark rooms) are natural habitat for my character. That explains something. No?! Tuomas

Aaaahh....

This is so much fun!

I finished the show and walked outside and the sky was hanging like a strange gray translucent blanket - the frigid air pouring into the city. It was a strange show tonight - but I don't mind the strange ones. I often find new things in shows that are a little off-kilter; the matinees, the double shows. It is so interesting the different energies that different audiences bring - the Saturday night show versus the Friday night show versus the Sunday matinee... The audience has a beautiful and strange collective energy or consciousness almost.

I am filled with the rush and joy of doing this show with these people in this place. Yay!

Also looking forward to a day off. We all really need it.

Until soon!

Previews and secret admirers

Last night we had our first preview. Lots of my friends (12!!) showed up to support us. All of them were very, very excited about the show. I also learned that cast members have secret admirers... Tuomas

Morning

I have awoken groggy... a stirring... inside... the sky is thick and gray. It is gentle and it glows.

We have all been in, are all in, that theater - that space. Things are being built, lights are being added, music, video. It's surging. It's twisting and turning and we, all of us, we are wrapped up inside it. Pushing and pulling, waiting, working and breathing, breathing, breathing...
